“Am I a gardener of my own life? If so, my garden is free from any violence and coercion. It’s a safe place in turbulent times and when I’m far away, my garden is still inside me. And for kids it’s an essential space for safe and calm growing up.”
Shooting portraits of kids in the garden space around them, Veronika admires the way they live freely in the natural environment. She prefers blurred contours (using film and retro cameras or monocles) and dark tones, recreating the space of black and white dreams. This is how she turns to the memories of her own childhood, while at the same time creating a space of memories for kids, where they can always return in the future and feel themselves being safe and innocent again. Blurred contours are also a symbol of the blurring of borders and their appearance in places other than expected, which the authors admits to feel. Landscape is a separate character here, as well as in other works of Trubnikova.
Most of the images of the project were taken in an analog way.
Veronika prefers to combine blurred contours (taken with a monocle and retro cameras) and dark tones with colored frames. Analyzing the work of photographers who have already worked with similar themes, Veronika leaves a retro feeling in her works, combining them with a modern vision.
In this project, the author works with archetypal symbols and images of childhood, growing up, security, and trust. The project is not built on the principle of storytelling, but nevertheless, it allows you to feel the emotional connections between the individual parts. The project is implemented in a series of prints and photo books.
